Roofing Advice
Norfolk’s open, low-lying landscape and exposed coast mean our roofs take a real battering when the wind gets up. Storms regularly lift tiles, tear flashings and expose homes to water ingress. If you think your roof has been damaged, here’s exactly what to do.
Never climb onto a storm-damaged roof, and keep clear of any tiles, slates or debris that may have come down. If tiles are hanging loose or there’s damage near power lines, keep everyone well away and treat the area as hazardous.
From a safe distance, look for the tell-tale signs:
If water is getting in, move furniture and valuables clear and place a bucket under any drips. Photograph everything — both the roof (from the ground) and any interior damage. Those photos are invaluable for your insurance claim.
A qualified roofer can safely inspect the damage, make the roof watertight quickly, and carry out a permanent repair. For active leaks we prioritise urgent call-outs across Norwich and Norfolk and can usually attend within a day or two. Prompt action stops a small problem turning into a major one — see our pitched roof repairs and lead work & flashings services.
Most home insurance policies cover storm damage. Contact your insurer as soon as it’s safe, and provide your photographs and a description of what happened. We support Norfolk homeowners with detailed inspection reports and photographs to back up claims, and can liaise with your insurer where it helps the process along.
Homes in more open positions — around the Broads and the towns and villages toward the coast such as Acle, North Walsham and Wroxham — tend to see the most storm damage. Wherever you are, you’ll find your area on our areas we cover page.
